Cardiac Monitoring (Echocardiology)
Using high frequency sound (ultrasound), echocardiology technicians
are able to visualize and measure sections of a patient's heart.
A Holter monitor is used to record a patient's heart activity
over a 24-hour period. Both procedures can be done as an outpatient
or inpatient. The information gathered is helpful in diagnosing
cardiac illnesses or determining if cardiac treatments are effective.
Cardiac Treatment
Center
The Cardiac Treatment Center was one of the earliest cardiac rehabilitation
programs in Northeastern Pennsylvania, opening almost 25 years
ago under the direction of Dr. Sandy Furey. Today, Dr. John Diakiw
serves as Medical Director, continuing the vision for cardiac
health begun under Dr. Furey.
Patient education and exercise sessions are available on an outpatient basis at the center located on the third floor of Moses Taylor Hospital. Staff members are registered nurses who coordinate diet, medication, and exercise information in conjunction with patients' treatment plans as prescribed by their physicians. Pharmacologic and exercise stress tests are also performed for diagnostic purposes.
Rehabilitation is not only for
the post-coronary bypass patients, but may be appropriate for
angioplasty patients, patients with stable angina and patients
suffering from recent heart attacks.
For more information call the Cardiac Treatment Center at 570-340-2152.

Moses Taylor Hospital provides a comprehensive service for sleep evaluation. The sleep evaluation begins with a physician consult with either a Pulmonologist or a Neurologist followed by an all-night sleep test. The sleep evaluation includes: sleep staging, limb movement, oxygenation, ventilation measurement. The Sleep Lab performs therapeutic titration studies using CPAP protocol and Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT).
The Sleep Lab can be contacted by calling 570-340-2934.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Moses Taylor Hospital,
under the medical direction of Dr. John Peters, is a multidisciplinary
service which emphasizes meeting the continual pulmonary care
needs of each individual participant.
The goals of the program are to provide each individual participant
the opportunity - through exercise and education - to improve
their quality of life, enhance their awareness of their disease
process, and to reduce and control symptoms.
The components of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program are an
initial sequence of testing, evaluation, education, and breathing
training followed by session of varied exercise. These exercise
sessions are under the guidance of a respiratory therapist and
developed according to each individual's exercise ability, medical
history, and exercise test results. The third component is the
maintenance program which is self-directed exercise with the support
of MTH staff.
For more information on the program call 570-340-2231
- 7am - 3pm.
