Senior Medical Mental Health Services - Inpatient Services
Moses Taylor Hospital's Senior Medical Mental Health Program is designed specifically for older adults experiencing psychiatric symptoms requiring acute 24 hour inpatient care. Because the environment is designed exclusively for the older adult, patients are able to obtain a level of comfort and familiarity, unavailable elsewhere.
Symptoms of need for inpatient care include: the inability to function due to the feeling of depression related to hopelessness and helplessness, experiencing confusion, severe anxiety, panic or behavioral problems associated with dementia.
Patients can be referred to Senior Medical Mental Health by their family physician or they or a family member can contact us directly. Our professional staff will perform a free assessment, wherever convenient for the patient, to determine if the patient meets admission criteria. Clinically appropriate patients are then admitted to our 22-bed unit where they will receive both medical and psychiatric care tailored to their individual needs. A full range of individual, group and family therapies are encouraged as part of the treatment plan. Family education is also provided. Our program strives to return patients to their pre-hospital environment, but when that is not possible; families can assist in choosing alternative placements.
Our program is continuously monitored to guarantee patient satisfaction and constantly improving to meet top national standards for geriatric care.
