The Balance/Vertigo Clinic
a Specialized Geriatric Outpatient
Service at Moses Taylor Hospital
When combined with the special physical and psychological needs
of the geriatric patient, equilibrium disorders create situations
that require specialized care. Modern advances in treatment and
diagnostic techniques have changed the prospects for those with
equilibrium disorders.
The Balance/Vertigo Clinic, featuring both traditional and
specialized equipment, is designed to be a specialized supplement
to the care provided by the primary care physician. After a referral
from the patient's primary care physician, the patient's initial
visit includes a triage system of evaluation to maximize the program's
efficiency and to facilitate the patient's convenience and comfort.
Appointments at the clinic include:
- A review of information provided by the primary care physician
- An overall geriatric assessment
- A detailed assessment of the patient's situation pertaining
to the symptoms exhibited
- On-site diagnostic testing as necessary in relation to the
patient's stamina and comfort.
After the comprehensive patient evaluation is completed, the
physician is contacted and a multi-disciplinary treatment program
is administered. these treatment options may include:
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Audiology
- Neurology
- Psychology
- ENT
- Cardiology
- additional treatment resources as needed
