The first Moses Taylor Hospital Lactation Conference was held 10 April 2007. The topic was "Healthcare Begins With Breastfeeding". Open to all area nurses, the conference was approved for 6 CEUs from Pa State Nurses Association and 6 LCERPs from the IBCLE.
Our speaker was Martha Kautz, who has over thrity years nursing experience in Maternal-Child Health. For fifteen of those years, she has been certified as an IBCLC working with high risk neonates, providing breastfeeding support and education to families and staff. Everyone agrees "Breast is Best", UNICEF, World Health Organization even formula companies. By the number of health care professionals who attended the conference, it is evident our community also concurs breastfeeding
provides the very best nourishment, health protection and emotional benefits for a baby starting at birth and extending into adulthood.
The conference was sponsered by Medela and AWONN. Tracy Brown, Medela representive pictured below, set up a product demonstration table outside the conference room. While there, she offered product information and answered questions from the attendees.
