Occupational Therapy at Moses Taylor Hospital helps patients increase their independence with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Another segment of the program helps increase patients functional mobility when using everyday conveniences such as a bed, tub chair or commode. Often these forms of therapy are necessary after serious physical illness, stroke or an accident.
Physical Therapy is a form of rehabilitation that improves a patient's strength, walking, balance, range of motion and endurance. This is accomplished with physical methods such as passive and active exercise, massage, heat and/or cold therapy and a wide range of techniques such as myofascial release, mobilizations and modalities. Muscular strength is often restored, joints and muscles are retrained to improve function, and pain and spasms are reduced.
The Occupational and Physical Therapy Programs at Moses Taylor work closely with the Joint Ventures Program, assisting patients who have undergone joint replacement. All therapies are individualized, focusing on human interaction, and delivered in both inpatient and outpatient formats.
Speech Pathology provides evaluation and remediation
of speech/language communication disorders as well as swallow
function. Stroke, alzheimer's disease, head trauma and degenerative
conditions like multiple sclerosis frequently interfere with an
individual's ability to communicate. Moses Taylor offers a comprehensive
Speech Pathology Program to assist adults who suffer from the
problems associated with these disorders. Working with patients
having speech and language difficulties, swallowing impairment
or cognitive dysfunction, licensed staff administer therapies
on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
