Moses Taylor Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children,
Philadelphia hold joint outreach clinics in Scranton on select
weekends. The clinic site is at Moses Taylor Hospital, 700 Quincy
Avenue, Scranton, PA, 1st floor Outpatient Clinic area. Upcoming
dates will be announced for future clinics. An orthopaedic doctor
from Shriners Hospital will be on site evaluating and treating
patients.
Moses Taylor Hospital is partnering with Shriners Hospital to
offer the outreach clinic in the local area for children with
orthopaedic problems. A successful clinic was also held at Moses
Taylor in the spring. By offering the clinic in Scranton, Shriners
is able to evaluate and treat local children who might otherwise
have a difficult time accessing services in Philadelphia or other
cities. The outreach clinic is open to all children under 18 years
of age regardless of race, religion, financial status or relationship
to a Shriner and is free of charge. Any child who has an orthopaedic
problem is eligible for examination and treatment. Shriners Hospital
in Philadelphia treats patients from New York to Virginia. Shriners
also provide the transportation at no charge for patients to be
treated in their facility in Philadelphia.
Shriners Hospital is equipped and staffed to provide care for
virtually all pediatric orthopaedic problems, with the exception
of acute trauma. The hospital has developed a special expertise
in the following areas: Spinal Cord Injuries, Cerebral Palsy,
Scoliosis (curvature of the spine), Spina Bifida, Hand Disorders,
Club Foot, Hip Disorders, Brittle Bone Disease and Juvenile Rheumatoid
Arthritis. Since 1926, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Philadelphia
has been providing expert medical care totally free of charge
to children between the ages of birth to 18 years of age, with
orthopaedic conditions resulting from injuries and diseases of
the bones, joints and muscles as well as spinal cord injuries.
